Montréal’s M.A.D Festival has always been a stomping ground for street stylers to push the boundaries of fashion, and this year, the resounding category was a fresh take on punk. Place des Festivals buzzed with a dynamic renaissance of the Rebellion era, with a mix of edgy ensembles seamlessly blended with a touch of uptown sophistication. The duality was a distinct look that was both subversive and polished.
With punk undertones having a striking comeback during Fashion Weeks across the globe, Montreal’s style enthusiasts embraced this trend with their own fervour and flair. Think tartan skirts, metallic accessories, and chunky boots, harking back to the days of punk’s gritty roots. Yet, these elements were contrasted with refined details: high-waisted trousers, dainty floral lace, and luxe fabrics that added a layer of sophistication to the anarchic spirit.
Additionally, there was a fun DIY ethos to the looks: gimp key chains, maximalized figurine accessories and decorated ties—all signalled a modern reminder of punk's core values—individuality, nonconformity, and rebellion.
