In a potent blend of luxury and narrative, Eduardo Ramos’s Spring/Summer 2025 collection, EXODUS, is an artistic retelling of his journey from Mexico to Canada. Each piece exemplifies Ramos’s talent for intertwining fashion with personal storytelling—a skill that recently earned him a coveted spot on the NewGen list at the Canadian Arts & Fashion Awards (CAFA).
“All my collections are very personal, and this one is close to my heart,” Ramos shared backstage, reflecting on the parallel between an immigrant’s journey and the symbolic transformation of a butterfly—specifically the monarch butterfly, which is innate to Mexico and has a proved migration to Canadian territories. The eleven looks present a narrative arc using silks and leathers, which Ramos describes as a reflection of growing throughout life’s journey.

Backstage with Eduardo Ramos at Vancouver Fashion Week, the intricate details of his metamorphosis and migration story come alive. From the delicate textures of ostrich leather to the transformative burned silk, each piece is carefully crafted to embody his journey and evolution through design.
The West Coast designer opened his runway show at Vancouver Fashion Week with structured tailoring, symbolizing the initial stage of change—a restrained cocoon awaiting transformation (look 1 and 2). Crafted from 100 per cent Italian wool, these sharp pinstripe suits evoke the first steps of migration. This luxurious material choice highlights Ramos’s dedication to quality and intention.
By the third look, Ramos introduces subtler transitions through bold textile combinations. Here, lambskin pants are paired with an accented bustier, marking the beginning of a gradual transformation. Later, bolder ostrich leather trimmings accent the silk backdrop of a men’s blouse (Look 4) and a women’s peplum top (Look 5), hinting at the delicate formation of wings. “The idea is to reflect the butterfly, without being too obvious, in the movement of the pieces,” he explains.
The collection’s pinnacle comes with the final looks—labour-intensive masterpieces highlighting Ramos’s innovative approach to fabric manipulation. The burned silk, meticulously singed to create a cocoon-like texture, emulates the final stages of rebirth. The breathtaking gowns (look 9 and 11) serve as a powerful visual statement, embodying the culmination of Ramos’s EXODUS story. For menswear, the double-breasted pinstripe suit (look 10) with structured shoulders, reminiscent of a West Indian zoot suit, is a nod to the evolving styles of the late ’50s, accented with Ramos’s contemporary twist.
Ramos’s creations are a testament to fashion being a tool to convey deep personal stories. In an industry constantly seeking fresh narratives, his creativity sticks out, and we can be assured that many silences will be broken through the craftsmanship of his work.
