The Best Dressed at the 2024 Screen Awards

The gold carpet was filled with suits, sequins and summery perfection

By Vainqueur Staff | June 2, 2024

It’s been a sporadic, seemingly nonstop awards season, but the stars and stylists saved the best for last. That’s the verdict from the gold carpet at the 2024 Screen Awards, which served up a plethora of summery, couture, and simply dazzling looks. Among the week’s biggest fashion surprises, Vivek Shraya dawned in two looks styled by Asia Fiasco: a decadent trailed opera coat turned gown by Greta Constantine and the signature Mario Fugnitto sculpted corset disrupting the fashion world. On the evening of the television programming and performance awards, Nadine Bhabha embraced Tim Burton’s playfulness in a stunning beetle juice-inspired gown by new designer Jina Kim of Sixnineosix.

Indeed, suits had their prescient moment with Salvatore Antonio’s relaxed vintage Zegna ensemble and Liam Ma’s white embroidered detailing on his all-black EENK suit. Some were sleek and simple, like the Gucci ensemble by host Mae Martin, and others, like Lauren Holly, brought layers and flared bottoms in Smythe. Shorts were not out of the question amongst the suit discourse— of course, as warmer days are ahead— Jay Baruchel took advantage in a Thom Browne seersucker striped suit with the signature tricolour details. The general consensus was once again abandoned tie, including Matias Lucas and Michael Seater setting the tone.

The stars embraced the season with bows, ribbons, and brighter colours. The coquette trend was modernized flirtatiously by Elaine Lu and Christine Vu. Some, however, stuck to the classic black but added decadent details to stand out. This is perhaps why Dani K chose to cape in a vegetable-tanned floral leatherwork from Uncuffed; while Ayisha Adam and Sasha Leigh Henry shimmered in sequin-adorned attires. The general trend was a mix of classic textures and summertime boldness.
