The Best Street Style at Toronto’s Spring 2024 Shows

Fashion month may have been wrapped elsewhere, but we’re just getting started in the true north, and Vainqueur is back with even more street-style coverage. Kicking things off was The Rchive fashion shows in the abandoned TTC subway platform, Lower Bay Station—which showcased newer designers, 5iftywohrs, Krečet, Krater and Starmony, to name a few. Outside the turnstiles and in the Yorkville core, guests dressed in grungy goth-like layers, custom denim patchworks and utilitarian hardware to bring their looks together. The deconstructive and subversive gamers trend was prevalent, and attendees opted for irreverent graphic patterns, military-inspired accessories, chain-heavy bracelets, and necklaces.

Street stylers across the pond at Fashion Art Toronto (FAT) continued to embrace the reductivist and goth-like theme. However, they added a twist by incorporating unconventional minimalist silhouettes and stark colour blocking, creating outfits that were both shocking and attention-grabbing. There was also much more avant-garde-ness intertwined, including oversized caped jackets, decorated balaclavas, and gigantic Spice Girl-inspired unisex platform heels. Maxi gender-neutral skirts took the spotlight as many street stylers showcased their creativity by layering skirts over pants, a trend that added warmth and texture to their ensembles. And if there was any mistake about whether the mishmash of plaid, Tartan, Glen Check and Houndstooth are trending, these street stylers confirmed it through their layers of detailed garment pieces.

Many attendees embraced a fusion of girly influences with punk-inspired elements. Pearls, tulles, and pastels were mixed with hulking boots, battle jacket leathers, and safety pins, creating a unique juxtaposition. The accessorizing details were not mere finishing touches but the main attraction, elevating the outfits to a whole new level. The style lesson of the past week was that no outfit is truly complete without the right accessories.
