Sagradesa’s Fall/Winter 2025 showcase at Fashion Art Toronto (F.A.T) transported audiences into a modern Victorian realm with a Latin twist. Regal feathers, expansive silhouettes, and cascading pearls set the stage with hitched-up slits and mini dresses that elevated feminine appeal. The collection titled El Vuelo del Deseo (The Flight of Desire), consisted of 12 eveningwear ensembles festooned with crochet textures, corsetry, and bubble skirts. Inspired by a folkloric love story filled with romance and betrayal, designer Maxime Cadena-Chercover described the collection as evoking “soft and romantic female characters who don’t take shit.” The pieces embodied ethereal softness mixed with edgy darkness, staying true to the brand’s signature aesthetic: bunched garments, draped silhouettes, and whimsical bridal accents.

The runway opened with intricate oil-inspired crochet dresses, each piece reimagining Victorian lace through a contemporary lens. The first two looks featured textured lace dresses with asymmetric hemlines and dramatic capes. The delicate craftsmanship was evident in the floral lace motifs and scalloped edges, while the white palette nodded to bridal traditions. Layered with satin trims and paired with edgy accessories, these garments flowed with an understated grace that played between soft bridal elegance and goth-inspired templates.

A defining moment came with a light gold lace-up corset dress, complete with a short, two-tiered puffed skirt (Look 4). This design—a modern take on 19th-century gown structures and trimmings—set the tone for the collection’s continuity. The flounces, bustles, and wide décolletages accented by draped pearls and bunched fabric celebrated the femininity and sensuality of Victorian eveningwear while amplifying modern-day sex appeal. These pieces also emphasized the evolution of Sagradesa’s style DNA, echoing themes previously explored in VQ’s digital cover, Todas Mis Flores.

Sagradesa’s collection exuded sensual empowerment with design elements such as cut-outs, low backs, midriffs, and layered textures. The Victorian influence was unmistakable, as the brand reimagined regency aesthetics through the lens of sexy, bold, and unapologetically modern femininity. Props and accessories like candleholders, piled-high hairstyles, and dripping jewels reinforced the historical influence while enhancing the show’s dramatic atmosphere.

One standout design channelled a Joan of Arc-inspired vision (look 12). A dual-layered high-low train in pinstriped baby blue, paired with a yellowish-white fabric underlay. The model, armed with a sword and a chainmail-inspired headpiece, symbolized strength and regality. This closing look wasn’t merely a nod to historical fashion—it was a declaration of Cadena-Chercover’s intent to explore history in every stitch through a modern, feminine lens.

“I hope many different women can see themselves in these looks,” Cadena-Chercover shared, emphasizing her intent to honour all body types and life stages. The collection celebrated the multifaceted forms of femininity, ensuring that every piece resonated as a symbol of empowerment.

Moving away from the layered maxi dresses of the Spring/Summer 2024 collection, Sagradesa embraced shorter dresses, crochet fabrics, and playful bows. Bolder looks featured dramatic crinoline panniers reminiscent of historical undergarments but reimagined as external structures, blending theatricality with modern artistry (look 7). One piece, styled with ribboned detailing and an exaggerated bustier, brought crinoline elements into a contemporary 1820s court gown aesthetic (look 11). Another garment boasted a structured bodice with ruffled layers, evoking the energy of a Regency ball with a modern twist (look 9).

The collection’s fabric choices further cemented Sagradesa’s commitment to sustainability. Repurposed textiles and non-virgin materials highlighted Cadena-Chercover’s dedication to ethical fashion practices. The designs featured intricate patterns—crochet florals, satin accents, and pinstripes—adding texture and depth while maintaining an overarching narrative of conscious design.

Sagradesa’s Fall/Winter 2025 eveningwear collection is a bold step forward for the new brand label. By marrying historical influences with modern silhouettes, Cadena-Chercover challenges conventional ideas of femininity and pushes the boundaries one drape at a time for fashion's eveningwear aesthetics.
